EDUCATION NEWS

  • Township High School District 214 ended its first phase of facility planning on Oct. 9 and gathered input from local stakeholders—feedback that will guide future facility upgrades.  Journal & Topics Media Group
  • The Maine Township High School Dist. 207 Board of Education hosted a virtual update with DeliverEd’s Rebecca Davis to share its plan for student success and a better school environment over the next three to five years; Phase 1 of the review using focus groups and community input has been completed—focusing on equity, academics, work, culture and system organization.  Journal & Topics Media Group

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit against State Farm on October 15 to force the company to share zip-code level data about its homeowner policies—this move follows an investigation into rising premiums that began in November 2024. State Farm said it has done nothing wrong and will work with the Department of Insurance.  CBS News Chicago

  • The Journal-area football schedule for week eight lists five games on Friday, Oct. 17 with matchups starting at 6:30 p.m. as Carmel (5-2) faces Loyola Academy (4-2) in a 2-2 series and Niles West (1-6, 1-2) meets Highland Park (5-2, 3-0) while at 7 p.m. Prospect (6-1, 3-0) plays Hersey (5-2, 3-0), Maine West (3-4, 2-1) takes on Vernon Hills (3-4, 2-1), and Maine East (0-7, 0-3) contests Niles North (2-5, 1-2).  Journal & Topics Media Group
