- ➤ On August 23 at 6:14 p.m., firefighters and paramedics responded to a smoke report at the former Rogan’s Shoe Store at the northwest corner of Dundee Road and Arlington Heights Road in Buffalo Grove, and by 6:25 p.m. they upgraded the call to a working fire—mutual aid came from Des Plaines, Long Grove, Lincolnshire, Northbrook and Arlington Heights. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than a dozen Arlington Heights residents and social-service advocates urged village officials on Monday to use caring measures instead of enacting a law that would make it illegal to sleep on public benches—some calling for a task force to manage downtown homelessness. Some board members worry that inaction may attract more unhoused people while others say arresting loiterers wastes police time. Daily Herald
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Transportation began milling and resurfacing Route 53 today from south of Kirchoff Road to south of Rand Road in Arlington Heights, Palatine and Rolling Meadows—two lanes in each direction stay open during the day as overnight lane and ramp closures are expected; work will pause for the winter and resume next spring before finishing in 2027. - ➤ Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights announced it will join the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Busse Woods—inviting community members to support research and care for those affected by the disease.
