Good morning, Arlington Heights. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 4th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation will launch its Fuel a Love of Reading campaign on June 14 at the Arlington Heights Farmers Market to raise $150,000 for a new bookmobile because the 16-year-old vehicle needs costly repairs. The campaign will sell limited-edition holiday ornaments—every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the market—and has already raised $74,000 from private donations.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois General Assembly did not pass a bill to fund CTA, Metra, and Pace before midnight May 31 — leaving these transit agencies and the Regional Transportation Authority with a combined $770 million shortfall as federal stimulus funds ended. Transit officials plan to explore cuts to address the gap and avert a fiscal cliff in 2026.  Journal & Topics Media Group
  • Palatine will not hire independent consultants to study the Bears relocation to Arlington Heights—Village Manager Reid Ottesen said he sees no need for a traffic engineer, lobbyist, or sound engineer and will wait for Arlington Heights’ review before spending taxpayer money.  Daily Herald
