  • The Arlington Heights Park District’s village board approved a $4.8 million expansion of its main recreation center at 660 N. Ridge Ave., adding 6,150 square feet for children’s programming and fitness classes. The two-story addition will also relocate a basketball court and upgrade pool locker rooms — construction will soon begin and continue in phases until early 2026 — enhancing facilities for growing community needs.  Daily Herald

  • Today, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said that although DMV lines stretched for blocks, REAL IDs will still be issued after the May 7 deadline—TSA now requires a Real ID or passport for domestic flights and access to some federal buildings while Homeland Security gives a two-year grace period.  CBS News Chicago
