- ➤ The Arlington Heights Park District’s village board approved a $4.8 million expansion of its main recreation center at 660 N. Ridge Ave., adding 6,150 square feet for children’s programming and fitness classes. The two-story addition will also relocate a basketball court and upgrade pool locker rooms — construction will soon begin and continue in phases until early 2026 — enhancing facilities for growing community needs. - ➤ Today, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said that although DMV lines stretched for blocks, REAL IDs will still be issued after the May 7 deadline—TSA now requires a Real ID or passport for domestic flights and access to some federal buildings while Homeland Security gives a two-year grace period. - ➤ Arlington Heights’ new mayor, James Tinaglia, met with Chicago Bears president Kevin Warren on Monday before taking his oath—Tinaglia served as a village trustee for 12 years. CBS News Chicago

- ➤ After more than 50 years, the East Suburban Catholic Conference will end after the 2025-26 season—its nine teams will join the Chicago Catholic League and Girls Catholic Athletic Conference for 2026-27. Boys teams from St. Viator, Notre Dame, Benet Academy, Carmel Catholic, Joliet Catholic, Marian Catholic, Marist, Nazareth Academy and St. Patrick will shift to the new leagues. - ➤ Hersey soccer star Gracie Lisota scored her 12th goal on April 30 in a 7-0 win over Wheeling—her 50th career goal that moved her to No. 3 on Hersey's all-time scoring list and made her the first player to reach this milestone since Hilary Johnson in 2001. Journal & Topics Media Group
