Illinois drivers will pay more for gas when the motor fuel tax rises to over 48 cents per gallon on July 1 — combined with local taxes, this makes Illinois one of only two states taxing above 80 cents per gallon.
Lawmakers are also considering a vehicle mileage tax to raise road funds as drivers are expected to pay an extra $143 per year.
