Spivey, age 41 from Mount Prospect, was detained pre-trial on attempted murder charges after he allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old man during a road rage incident at Euclid Ave and Hicks Rd on Saturday, April 19 — his victim and another motorist subdued the suspect — while police and emergency responders arrived. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Harper College’s Doug Spiwak was inducted into the NACDA Hall of Fame on April 8 — he is one of eight honored inductees including peers such as Gary Barta and Sharon Beverly — marking a notable achievement in collegiate athletics. Journal & Topics Media Group
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes, the town’s longest-serving elected official, was honored at his final village board meeting Monday when a community room in village hall was dedicated to him in recognition of his 34 years of service. He will step down as mayor on May 5 while continuing his work as a trial attorney at McKenna Storer — and he has earned praise for his role in boosting downtown development and supporting local projects. - ➤ On April 16, the Prospect team edged Hersey 13 to 10 in overtime in the PanCAN water polo game at Prospect Natatorium. The game honored former Hersey coach Rob Lindgren who died July 15, 2018 after battling pancreatic cancer. Journal & Topics Media Group
