- ➤ A Senior and Veteran Resource Fair is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Plum Grove Banquet Hall on Park Drive in Palatine to offer valuable information and services to seniors and veterans in the area. Local leaders including State Representatives Nicolle Grasse and Nabeela Syed, State Senator Mark Walker, and county commissioners Maggie Trevor and Kevin Morrison will attend—adding key support from organizations such as Hines VA Hospital, Cook County Health, iCash, and the Rolling Meadows Department of Human Services. - ➤ CoCo & Blu owners are expanding their business by launching a new restaurant called CoCo & Maple in downtown Mount Prospect at the former fire and police headquarters of the HQ Residences on 130 E. Northwest Highway. The village board approved $250,000 in tax increment financing assistance and a fee waiver while owner Michael Brown plans to invest over $880,000 in the 3,300-square-foot space with an opening planned for July or August. - ➤ MAAX Asian BBQ and Hot Pots (22 E. Algonquin Road) is set to open April 25 in the former Rack House on Arlington Heights' south side. The restaurant will offer all-you-can-eat tableside barbecue and hot pots with pork, beef, chicken, seafood and vegetables while owner/manager Gavin Ma secured a class A liquor license Monday night to move the project forward. - ➤ Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is offering rain barrels to Cook County residents at a discounted rate of $21.50 and $10.75 for seniors to capture roof runoff and reduce flooding risks.
